Exam Tag Checker

Check the key knowledge tagging on a coded exam dataset, correct what's wrong, and send the corrections back. Everything happens in this browser — no file leaves your computer, and there's nothing to sign in to.

Step 1 load your files Step 2 work through the questions Step 3 send the corrections file back

Load your files

Drop in the key knowledge index and every coded question file you were sent. The tool works out which is which. If you saved your progress earlier, drop that file in here too and you'll pick up where you left off.

Drag your files here

Accepts .txt, .js, .json and .md — as many at once as you like

What this tool is for It finds the errors a machine can find — a code that doesn't exist, an average higher than the question's own marks, section totals that don't add up, questions tagged against four or five things at once. It can't tell you whether a tag is right. That's the part it needs you for, and it's the reason you were sent it rather than a spreadsheet.

Not sure what any of this is, or want to build one of these for your own study? This tool is one step inside a larger kit — start here. No account needed for that either.

Each question's stem is in here, so a good many can be judged from this page alone. Have the exam paper open anyway. Anything that points at a diagram, a data set or a source can't be judged without seeing it — the tool marks those for you — and the section totals are printed on the paper and nowhere else.

What the checker found

Red is wrong regardless of judgement. Amber is worth a look. Blue is a finding rather than an error — confirm it's real.

Section totals

Open each paper and type in the total printed at the head of the section. If the coded questions don't add up to it, a question was misread, missed or counted twice — and no amount of tag-checking will find that for you.

The questions

Work down the list. Tick each question when you've satisfied yourself the tagging is defensible — a question that mentions a concept isn't the same as one that assesses it. Questions marked Needs the paper can't be settled from what's in this file; the filter above gathers them if you'd rather do those in one pass with the paper open.

Send it back

This file contains everything you changed and why, anything still outstanding, and the corrected dataset. Email it back as it is — don't edit it by hand, since it's read by a machine at the other end.

Your work is saved in this browser as you go. Clearing your browser data will clear it, so download the progress file if you're changing machines.
Nothing is uploaded anywhere. This page has no server behind it.
